Trailer for Elysium (2013)

Elysium (2013)(click on the title for my full review)

Sci-Fi lovers rejoice.  Elysium is coming.

Elysium takes place in the year 2154.  The rich live on a space station and the poor live on Earth, but the Earth is in shambles.  The rich are trying to protect their way of life, but the poor want in.

With an estimated $100,000,000 budget, the filmmakers are banking on Matt Damon and Jodie Foster to make Elysium a monster summer blockbuster.

It is written and directed by Neill Blomkamp who is most known for directing District 9 (2009).

The movie also stars William Fichtner, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, Michael Shanks, Sharlto Copley, Talisa Soto, Ona Grauer, Terry Chen, Wagner Moura, Johnny Cicco, and Faran Tahir.

The film looks like it will be rich with special effects and action.  This one looks like a must-see.

The movie is set to release on 8/9/13.

Trailer for Redemption (2013) Also Known As Hummingbird (2013)

Redemption (2013) (also known as Hummingbird (2013))

Jason Statham has been stuck making a lot of very similar movies lately.  Hummingbird seems slightly out of the norm for him.  The movie looks like it has a little bit more of a story to it and a little bit more heart in it.  Although I could be completely wrong, that is just what I gather from the preview.

A man (Statham) assumes a different man’s identity in order to hide from the law.

The film also stars Vicky McClure, Lee Asquith-Coe, Benedict Wong, Ian Pirie, Agata Buzek, Ger Ryan, and Lee Nicholas Harris.

The movie is written and directed by Steven Knight.

I’m not sure that this movie would be worth seeing in the theatre.  I’m also not sure if it will even get wide release in the U.S. or go straight to DVD.  Either way, it looks like it would be worth seeing when it finally does come out on DVD.

I can’t find a U.S. release date on this one, but it is supposed to be sometime this year.

Trailer for The Purge (2013)

The Purge Poster

The Purge (2013) (click on the title for my full review)

I’m not sure that I agree with this concept, but it will definitely be a controversial movie.  It will be interesting to see how this movie pans out.  How could you end a movie like this?

The film looks like it will probably be pretty brutal.  It would really be a scary world to live in if all crime was legal for one day out of the year.  I don’t think that would solve any of the world’s problems.

I’m not sure if this would be classified as a horror movie or a thriller.  Probably a thriller.

Ethan Hawke continues to choose eerie and gritty roles.

The movie looks intense, but I’ll totally have to see it.

Lena Headey co-stars.  You might recognize her as the bad woman from Dredd (2012)

The rest of the cast is hardly worth noting.  It seems like the majority of the cast includes actors who have had very small roles in movies and are not popular.  You probably would not know who I am talking about if I listed anybody else in this movie.

It is written and directed by James DeMonaco and produced by the people that brought you Paranormal Activity (2007) and Sinister (2012).

The film is set to release on 5/31/13.

Trailer for White House Down (2013)

White House Down Poster

White House Down (2013) (click on the title for my full review)

It never ceases to amaze me how often very similar movies release in theatres just a few months apart from each other.  White House Down appears to be basically the same story as Olympus Has Fallen (2013).  Is it a coincidence how both movies have titles that are so alike?

White House Down is directed by Roland Emmerich who is known for directing The Day After Tomorrow (2004), The Patriot (2000), and Independence Day (1996).

White House Down stars Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, Jason Clarke, Joey King, Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Woods, Richard Jenkins, Rachelle Lefevre, Jimmi Simpson, Lance Reddick, Garcelle Beauvais, Peter Jacobson, and Matt Craven.

The movie does look good.  I will probably have to check it out in the theatre.

The film is set to release on 6/28/13.

Trailer for 2 Guns (2013)

2 guns poster

2 Guns (2013)

Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg teamed up together and against each other in an action/drama.  This movie sounds good and looks even better.  Great title.  Great cast that also, most notably, includes James Marsden, Paula Patton, Bill Paxton, Edward James Olmos, Robert John Burke, Patrick Fischler, and Fred Ward.  It is directed by Baltasar Kormakur.

I think that it is basically guaranteed to be a big hit.  I will definitely check it out in the theatre.

The film is set to release on 8/2/13.

Trailer for The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)

The Place Beyond the Pines cover

The Place Beyond the Pines (2012) (click on the title for my full review)

The film looks like a cross between Drive (2011)(good) and Killing Them Softly (2012)(bad).  In Drive Ryan Gosling is a stunt driver turned driver for hire.  In The Place Beyond the Pines it appears like he is a stunt motorcycle driver turned bank robber.  It seems that Eva Mendes plays a very similar character in The Place Beyond the Pines that Carey Mulligan plays in Drive.

Overall the movie looks pretty dark in a similar way to that of Killing Them Softly.  Also, Ray Liotta and Ben Mendelsohn are in both of those movies.  Both actors played very scuzzy characters in Killing Them Softly and I think they have continued that trend in The Place Beyond the Pines.

The wildcard in The Place Beyond the Pines is going to be Bradley Cooper.  In recent years Cooper has proved that not only is he a supremely capable and extraordinary actor, but he has also chosen his movies very wisely.  Gosling is great and Liotta has that ability as well, but we have seen them in this type of movie before.  Cooper, I think, will be the deciding factor as to whether or not this movie is any good.

Other supporting cast includes: Olga Merediz, Mahershala Ali, Brian Smyj, Rose Byrne, Harris Yulin, and Bruce Greenwood.

On paper, a movie with this cast should be a slam dunk.  It does look good enough to see in the theatre, but I’m going to be a little skeptical.

The movie directed by Derek Cianfrance and it is set to release on 3/29/13.

Trailer for World War Z (2013)

World War Z (2013) (click on the title for my full review)

A Brad Pitt zombie movie to the extreme.  This movie looks like it will be loaded with insanely spectacular special effects.  The question that I have is: is it all a little too much?  Just look at the poster.  Could that ever happen even if there was a zombie outbreak that threatened mankind as we know it?

I’m sure that I will see it.  Pitt in a zombie movie in an interesting concept in itself.  But, I’m thinking it’s all going to be way over the top.  Not that zombies aren’t over the top already…

Other cast includes: Matthew Fox, Mireille Enos, David Morse, James Badge Dale, Michiel Huisman, David Andrews, and Daniel Newman.

It is directed by Marc Forster.

World War Z is set to release on 6/21/13.

Teaser Trailer for Riddick (2013)

Riddick international poster

Riddick (2013)

It seems that Vin Diesel can only make 2 movies these days.  Either a sequel to The Fast and the Furious (2001) or a sequel to Pitch Black (2000).  He is supposedly making a sequel to XXX (2001), but we will see if that actually happens.

Let’s ask ourselves a question why more of those sequels?  Diesel wasn’t in 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), and he had a cameo uncredited appearance in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006).  It wasn’t until Fast & Furious (2009) that he returned to the fast and furious franchise.  So why the 8 year gap?

The answers to those questions are that Vin Diesel supposedly had a falling out with some people from the fast crew and he wanted to go off and make Vin Diesel movies.  So what did he make during that 8 year gap?

Arguably Knockaround Guys (2001) was out the same year as the first Fast, so that doesn’t count.  It pretty much tanked anyways.  In 2002, XXX comes out and does very well.  A Man Apart (2003) comes out and Vin is on a roll.  That is my personal favorite Diesel movie, by the way.  Then he has some time to make a sequel to the popular Pitch Black called The Chronicles of Riddick (2004).  Then the tough guy makes a kids movie, The Pacifier (2005) and although it does well, Diesel fans think that it’s a joke.  Then he does Find Me Guilty (2006) which was mediocre, but also tanks.  At this point, he’s not really making anything else, so he does the cameo for The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.  Is it because Paul Walker and none of the original cast is in the movie?  Probably.  Then Diesel makes Babylon A.D. (2008) and it’s another disaster.  After all of the flops Vin has lost his audience and needs revival.  So what does he do?  He makes good with the fast gang and makes an odd, out of order sequel, Fast & Furious.  People actually go out and see the sequel, so he makes a bigger and better one in, Fast Five (2011).  He can’t get into any original movies, so he is coming back with Riddick (2013), not to mention Fast & Furious 6 (2013) just went into post production.  How long will Vin ride the sequel train before it derails and he is all washed up?

Did we really need another Riddick movie?  Weren’t the first 2 bad enough?  They both had one cool concept, a big tough guy with cool glasses.

So in Riddick they have managed to find a bigger, tougher guy than Vin and his name is Dave Bautista.  Karl Urban, Bokeem Woodbine, Jordi Molla, Katee Sackhoff, Nolan Gerard Funk, and Raoul Trujillo all join the fun.  David Twohy writes and directs.

It is set to release on 9/6/13.

I will be skipping this movie.  No thank you.

Teaser Trailer for Anchorman: The Legend Continues (2013)

Anchorman 2 Poster

Anchorman: The Legend Continues (2013)

Will Ferrell’s raunchy Ron Burgundy will be back on the big screen for what is bound to be more insanely amusing reporting.

As far as I know, the film has not been completed yet, so some details of what I write could end up being false if the filmmakers decide to make any changes before the final product.  As of right now, it appears that the majority of the cast that was in the first film Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) will return for the sequel.  With all the sequels floating around in Hollywood, it surprises me that it took them 9 years before they actually made this sequel.  But, I am glad that they didn’t go with the title Anchorman 2.

The teaser trailer does not reveal much, but with Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate, David Koechner, and Luke Wilson (rumored) all back again for more, and also with the rumored additions of Harrison Ford, John C. Reilly, James Marsden, Kristen Wiig, and Meagan Good, the film is bound to be a hit.

Will Farrell once again writes and Adam McKay is in the director’s chair for another go round.

When the film releases, you can expect me to be in a theatre seat not long after.  Even though I’m annoyed with sequels, you just can’t go wrong with certain sequels.

The movie is rumored to release on 12/20/13.

Trailer for The Internship (2013)

The Internship cover

The Internship (2013) (Click on the title for my full review.)

Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are teamed up again for the first time since Wedding Crashers (2005).  If The Internship is anything like Wedding Crashers, then we are definitely in for a show.  I think that the filmmakers are counting on audiences to think the same thing.

The movie looks like it might be good for a few laughs, but I just have a gut feeling that audiences are going to be disappointed.  It looks funny, but not very.

Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn play two friends who lose their jobs and manage to get internship positions at Google in hopes of eventually getting a job with Google.

I’m a big fan of the comedy duo, but they probably should have tried to make a movie like this together 5 or 6 years ago when they were still more in their prime.

Either way, the film is basically guaranteed to make a lot of money, at least in the first few weeks after it is released.

Yeah, I’ll probably see it and hopefully I’m wrong about my gut feeling.  What are your thoughts?

The Movie is directed by Shawn Levy and some recognizable supporting cast includes John Goodman, Rose Byrne, B.J. Novak, Max Minghella, and Aasif Mandvi.

The movie is set to release on 6/7/13.
