Trailer for Hours (2013)

Hours Poster

Hours (2013)

Paul Walker keeps making basically one-man independent movies.  At least this one looks better than Vehicle 19 (2013).

The film is about a man (Walker) who desperately tries to keep his premature newborn baby daughter alive during Hurricane Katrina.

The movie was written and directed by Eric Heisserer and the rest of the noteworthy cast includes Genesis Rodriguez, and Nick Gomez.

The film is set to release on 12/13/13.

Trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

X-Men Days of Future Past Poster

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

I have always been a fan of X-Men.  My favorite X-Men movies are X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) and The Wolverine (2013).

In the new film, X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is sent back in time in order to try to change the past and prevent a horrible future.

The movie was directed by Bryan Singer and the rest of the noteworthy cast includes Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Anna Paquin, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Ellen Page, Evan Peters, Nicholas Hoult, Peter Dinklage, Shawn Ashmore, Bingbing Fan, Daniel Cudmore, Lucas Till, Booboo Stewart, Omar Sy, Adan Canto, Josh Helman, and Thai-Hoa Le.

I love movies that have to do with time travel.  X-Men movies have been better in recent years, and this one, once again, has a great cast.  This should prove to be a recipe for a fun and enjoyable movie.

The film is set to release on 05/23/13.

Trailer for Neighbors (2014)

Neighbors (2014)

If you liked the movie This is the End (2013), then you might enjoy the upcoming film, Neighbors.

Neighbors is a comedy about a couple with a newborn baby who get stuck living next door to a fraternity house.

The movie was directed by Nicholas Stoller and the noteworthy cast includes Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Dave Franco, Zac Efron, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Lisa Kudrow, Chasty Ballesteros, Jake Johnson, and Bobby Moynihan.

I’m not a huge fan of Seth Rogen, but for some reason I continue to see his movies.  This is the End certainly had its moments.  Neighbors looks like it could at least be good for a few laughs.

The film is set to release on 05/09/14.

Trailer for Labor Day (2013)

Labor Day Poster

Labor Day (2013)

Labor Day is a movie about a single mother (Kate Winslet) and her son who take in a wanted fugitive (Josh Brolin) and hide him in their house.  After a while the fugitive becomes part of the family, but the police are quickly getting closer to finding the man.

The film was written and directed by Jason Reitman and the rest of the noteworthy cast includes Tobey Maguire, Clark Gregg, Dylan Minnette, James Van Der Beek, and Gattlin Griffith.

I don’t think I’m going to have to rush out to the theatre to see this love story of sorts, but it does look worth watching.  You usually can’t go wrong with Brolin or Winslet.

The movie is set to release on 01/31/14.

Trailer for Winter’s Tale (2014)

Winter's Tale Poster

Winter’s Tale (2014)

A burglar (Colin Farrell) falls in love with a woman (Jessica Brown Findlay) whose house he was going to rob.  After she dies, he finds that he has the power of reincarnation and he tries to bring her back to him.

The Film was written and directed by Akiva Goldsman and the rest of the noteworthy cast includes Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Will Smith, William Hurt, Eva Marie Saint, Kevin Durand, Matt Bomer, and Graham Greene.

This does not look like your average love story.  It is a story of reincarnation as almost a form of time travel.  The idea is intriguing and the cast is excellent.  I think I’ll have to check this one out.

The movie is set to release on 02/14/14 (Valentine’s Day)

The Counselor (2013)

The Counselor poster

The Counselor (2013)

Ridley Scott is a man who knows how to direct a film.  I have seen almost all of the movies that he has directed, and I have never been disappointed in his work.  Sure, there have been a few movies of his that I did not enjoy as much as the others, but he has always done an outstanding job as a director.  I could list off his resume to prove my point, but his work speaks for itself.  His movies are always of the highest quality that they can be.  If you have seen his movies, then you know what I’m talking about.

The Counselor Fassbender Bardem

Knowing what I know about Ridley Scott’s films, I knew that I would have to see his latest movie, The Counselor.  Like most of Scott’s other films, The Counselor has a stellar cast.  What do you usually get when you cross a highly gifted director with a bunch of talented actors?  The answer is a powerful movie.

The Counselor is about a lawyer (Michael Fassbender) who turns his life upside down when he becomes involved in drug trafficking.

The film was written by Cormac McCarthy and the rest of the noteworthy cast includes Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt, Bruno Ganz, Rosie Perez, Sam Spruell, Velibor Topic, Dean Norris, and John Leguizamo.

The Counselor Pitt

I did not know quite what to expect before watching this movie.  I knew it was not going to be a happy-go-lucky film because it is about drug trafficking and living on the edge, but it had to be entertaining.

Surprisingly, the film was a little slow, at times.  It was also a little hard to follow until things became clearer in the middle of the movie.  I think this was because the film started in the middle of a story, rather than telling the story from the beginning.  Little by little, you figure out exactly what is going on, but it takes its time getting there while it jumps around.  With all of that being said, it took me some time to get into the story.

The scenery in the movie was flashy and beautiful.  There was a lot of money floating around in the film and this was made very obvious with all of the expensive sports cars and elegant mansions.  It was a great depiction of an extravagant lifestyle gone awry because of a few very bad decisions.  In fact, that seemed to be the overall theme of the movie.  Bad choices will come back to haunt you.  If you live on the edge for too long, eventually you are bound to fall off.

The Counselor Diaz Cruz

The Counselor had a lot of great and unique characters.  They were made great by the exceptional actors portraying them.  They were made unique by how they were portrayed.  Each of the five main characters looked like they came out of a dark comic book or video game about how drug trafficking can be dangerous.  Whether it was the hair, the make-up, or the clothing, they were certainly a bunch of characters.

The movie was in-your-face.  It was oozing with sexuality, violence, harsh language, and disturbing images.  All of this was done with originality.  There were times when the movie was hard to like, but because of how well-made it was, overall, the film was hard not to like.  I credit Ridley Scott for taking a hard to enjoy tale and making it likable.  The actors were the icing on Scott’s cake, but he chose the flavor and the taste.

I rate this movie a 7.5 on a scale of 1-10.

Buy, rent, or run?  Rent.

Teaser Trailer for The Raid 2: Berandal (2014)

The Raid 2 Berandal Poster

The Raid 2: Berandal (2014)

If you are a fan of The Raid: Redemption (2011), you will want to check out this teaser trailer for the sequel called, The Raid 2: Berandal (2014).  If you are an action movie fan and you have not yet seen The Raid: Redemption, do yourself a favor and just go out and buy it.  You will not be disappointed.  Simply click on the title for my full review.

The plot of the sequel is unknown, but the trailer looks like it all continues where it left off.  If the sequel is half as good as the first film, it will be worth seeing.

The film is written and directed by Gareth Evans and the noteworthy cast includes Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian, Raiden Integra, Donny Alamsyah, and Tio Pakusodewo.

The Raid: Redemption blew me away, and I have seen tons of action movies.  The sequel promises to be quite entertaining.  I can’t wait!

The film is set to release on 03/14/14.
